The rules for the above systems are Age of Horse: 4-7, Horse Win % 1-100, Horse Place %: 40-100, Days to Last Start: 3-17, Last Start Finish Position: 1-4. Adding a rule to exclude horses paying over $50 will reduce the number of selections and you may even consider reducing that figure to $30 or $40 to get the desired number of selections for what you want to do (eg exotics etc).

Cup Betting Strategies

There are a large number of chances in a quality race of 24 starters like the Cup so our recommended approach is to back a number of horses so that you win as long as at least one bet collects. Fortunately the odds are usually generous on most runners for this approach but it is still a good idea to minimise your outlays and maximise your returns with strategies as follows:

• We suggest you frame your bet sizes so you get similar returns on each bet. Simply divide the price on offer into the amount you want to collect, for example for a $100 return you would bet a $4 chance with $25 (100 divided by 4) and a $9 chance with $11 (100 divided by 9).
• We also suggest you bet win and place to increase the number of collects. You could for example place win bets on any selections under say $10 and place bets on selections over $5 a place.
